Two large stone monuments with inscriptions, set on a paved platform with three stone benches, overlooking a scenic landscape with trees and a clear sky at dawn or dusk. The left monument is dedicated "In Memory of the 229 men, women and children aboard Swissair Flight 111 who perished off these shores September 2, 1998," with additional text in English and French. The right monument offers a "Grateful recognition" to those who assisted in the recovery efforts, also in English and French. A small yellow flower and note are placed near the base of the right monument.

On this day in 1998, Swissair Flight 111 crashed eight kilometres off the coast of Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. The plane hit the water at 555 km/h, killing all 229 on board.
Over two million pieces of debris were recovered. Most bodies were identified by DNA profiling.
