I think there is a reasonable purpose to the presidential pardon. However, I don't believe it should be plenary. It is one the the few places where there are no checks. It is the lack of check that breeds corruption. How that check works, I think there are many options.

Then on top of that, he is constantly saying he was going to be tough on China, but TPP was the most consequential treaty in the pursuit of that, and Trump gave them a gift by spiking it.

Yeah, what is even funnier, is Trump didn't even negotiate it, Obama did. All the concessions Mexico and Canada made, were already part of TPP. He basically ripped it out of TPP, tossed TPP in the garbage, and claimed credit for getting Canada and Mexico to agree to things they already agreed to.

Also, two partners that we have a treaty, that he "renegotiated", that says he can't. USMCA does allow some tariffs but only in very specific cases. He would require congressional approval to impose a blanket tariff.

So on his first day, he plans to break the treaty he "renegotiated"? Pretty sure he needs congressional approval for that.

The new "NAFTA", i.e. USMCA still provides for tariff-free trade between US, Canada and Mexico, except for very specific cases.

It's funny that he doesn't understand this would be illegal under the treaty he "renegotiated." It would take an act of Congress to walk away from it, so the tariffs should be ruled void.

I wonder if there were a single individual that would reap a huge windfall from such actions. It would be awful if that person had undue influence in our government and was able to steer policy.

My worst was falling asleep on the commute home. The conductor waking me up at the end of the line 50 miles past my stop. There were no other trains in the other direction until morning.
