As for the dev sides of things- crunch developing has become the norm and it truly is disgusting. From Rockstar going to war with their employees over unionising, to Ubisoft sending themselves to the financial toilet over lawsuits, they all have forgotten the basic point: we want good games.

For example, #Balatro became the sleeper hit of 2024. Why? Because people focused on the gameplay, without worrying about what other gamers were up to. Same goes for the #Zelda games, and half the mario sports games. You didn't need to compete to play.

Also, with the focus on being online play and customisable skins, Gaming companies have forgotten that the actual experience is what gets people playing games. See also- #Pokemon hiding the good stuff behind online battle royals, everything #Fortnite does. There is hope though.

To give you an idea of how and why- the games industry focused on live service games in the Pandemic. To keep people busy, and to invade as much of their time as possible. For example, #ForzaHorizon4 requires weekly play at minimum to get the cool cars. It sucks.

The video games industry is eating itself, and frankly, this has been a long time coming. I'm not surprised at all. Too much focus on "live service" games and paid DLC, and nowhere near enough focus on the gaming experience. If COD goes, I won't be surprised. The level of negligence is gigantic.
