05.12.2025 13:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Me at the work trivia night on the weekend, refusing to back down from clarifying that more than two marsupials have backwards-facing pouches while the big bosses of the organisation shout "Zoe stop Zoe stop you got it right!"
05.12.2025 11:00 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Anyway I'm this close to dropping two American K on a palaeolagus specimen which is basically a whole damn skull
05.12.2025 08:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A screenshot taken from https://muzeumewolucji.pl/?p=2977&lang=en of a fossil of Palaeolagus haydeni, credited to Wolniewicz, A.S and Fostowicz-Frelik, Ε. 2021. CT-informed skull osteology of Palaeolagus haydeni (Mammalia: Lagomorpha) and its bearing on the reconstruction of the early lagomorph body plan. Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution 9:634757. The skull is in lateral view facing right, with two sets of upper incisors and one of lower incisors, a long diastema and then distinctive ridged cheek teeth. Along the side of the snout there is a region of bone which appears more weathered, typical of the lacy fenestrated area on lagomorph maxillas. The skull is flattened with relatively shallow orbits but it is still distinctively, painfully, perfectly a rabbit (rabbit here being dramatically used as a synonym for lagomorphs in general)

A CT model scan of the skull from the previous picture, different bones of the head highlighted in different colours. It looks even more rabbit now, the maxillary fenestra which are characteristic of lagomorpha beautifully preserved. I'm having an emotion
Openly weeping
BunnY
This fossil is 30 million years old and I can see the same nasal bones, the same maxillary fenestra, the same molar ridges that I see in my rabbits. God what incredible creatures I'm gonna lose my mind

05.12.2025 07:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A list of podcasts listened to over the course of the year, each of them having at least almost two days of listening logged. The podcasts featured are Too Scary; Didn't Watch, Behind the Bastards, Just the Zoo of Us, In Bed With The Right, The Common Descent, Thumb Cramps, A Bit Fruity, Baseless Speculation, bigsofttitty.png, Maintenance Phase's patreon feed and Against The Odds. I stand by all of them except bigsofttitty.png which I think is a war crime to recommend to people, everyone should definitely listen to it
Meanwhile, in the app which knows what I'm about

@spacegandalf.bsky.social is heckling every animal. "If I were a sea cow," she scoffs, "I would simply pay attention to the tides."
Sea cows are her favourite animal in this show

I honestly think enhydriodon is one of the scariest creatures in this show. 10 foot long pack-hunting mustelids? No thank you no thank you no thank you

A photo of two rabbits snuggling, the carpeted room around them strewn with hay, poops and chewed up cat toys. The black rabbit on the left is a solid, velvety loaf, her body curved around the fluffy white rabbit on the right. Her head is on the floor, pressed into his neck to ask for kisses. He is stretched out flat as well, his head raised and facing into the camera with his pink little mouth visible

A photo of a chunky black rex rabbit, loafing in the middle of a carpeted room. The floor is dotted with specks of gay and rabbit poops. She looks extremely satisfied with herself, one arm outstretched majestically and the rest of her body a shapeless loaf with no visible neck and a tiny head. One ear is casually focussed towards the camera, but she is not concerned about anything. She does not know that my vacuum cleaner bags came in the mail yesterday and I can finally clean the house
