There is some lip service to it, ala Andrew Yang, but it's hard not to notice that if you say, "So are you gonna slow down and do that BEFORE you build the machine that will put everyone out of a job?" you get crickets.

I'm pretty online, and I still had to really slow down to interpret "AI doomerism" and "hype" in the specific ways he's using those terms, as he's picked them up from some part of online discourse I'm not regularly seeing.

I think a large part of the problem here comes down to clear communication. Your interpretation of his post is clear and sensible, and I do think you've read it the way he meant it. But I have read Hayes's post at least 5 times since yesterday, and it is pretty opaque.

I have fewer and fewer "these people need therapy" days, and more and more "these people are ontologically evil" days.

That is definitely part of it, but there is also that one other teeny, tiny association people have with that city and religion.

And they've overtaken every other style. Trying to update or redecorate anything is a giant headache now, because that aesthetic is so prevalent. Every newer home looks like a model home or cheap TV set. Even if I didn't hate it, it just doesn't blend with anything else that's already in my home.

I know lawyers are steeped in this, so maybe you don't see it, but it is really alarming for outsiders to learn things like "It is basically unheard of for a grand jury to correctly assess that prosecutors are pursuing false or trumped up charges." Lower threshold should not mean NO threshold.

I agree, and this is secondary, but the follow-up question, "How many agencies do you know that get to kill citizens and keep their funding?" was absolutely not a personal or inflammatory question. He just didn't like the question.

And this is a hobby horse for me, but being unable to empathize with your opponents is a liability. Republicans absolutely SHOULD understand spite, but they lack the empathy to imagine Canadians are capable of it as well.

"You have to be friends with me or I'll hurt you" is a load bearing wall in Republican ideology. You see it everywhere.

Any halfway-competent tin pot dictator would immediately have his Spidey sense tingling that the whole thing had an air of politics, but not the American punditry! Referencing a cash crop? Jail. Talking about camaraderie with other nations? Jail. Waving OTHER flags? Jail.

This is a great point. But then again, knowing literally anything about the politics or history of any nation in this hemisphere is not the long suit of anyone in the American punditry.

This act by the punditry is tiresome and annoying, because when someone says something like "the only thing stronger than hate is love" *Trump himself* knows it's political and he's the target. He threw a fit about exactly the same thing just a few days ago!

Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.

To millions of older white people across the US singing "Wrapped up like a douche in the middle of the night" totally unbothered - don't tell me you care that much about the intelligibility.

I think if they took a second and were honest with themselves, they'd realize they don't actually know that many lyrics to songs in English, nor are they bothered when they don't understand the words in English.

Yesterday I noticed the lab had switched the TV away from the Big Bear bald eagles, and I was like, "Oh did the Heme tech get tired of watching them?" And the Histo tech was like, "Oh, some predator snuck into the nest and ate the eggs. We can't watch them it's too much of a bummer."

Also, just to underline how weird he is, bratwurst, sauerkraut, cheese, chicken wings, and hot sauce are all meat and or fermented and he still chose "yogurt."

When they say "We love America" it makes no sense to anyone who doesn't understand they mean an imaginary White nation that never existed.

It's all just a loud, ambient buzz at this point, but at least it's worth mentioning for those interested in keeping track that Republicans don't like American music, or food, or literature, or films, or fashion, or sports, the land, the sea, and almost none of the people who actually live here.
