In 2016 I had an Aussie friend who was surprisingly cheerful when Trump won, not bc she was a supporter but she recognized that Trump was a bad thing but cheerful it was happening to us.

Of all the things we are doing in MN, this one is just beyond. Imagine being released from hell alone in the cold. And a total stranger has waited all night with a blanket just to be ready to hug you and carry you home. Every job we do is crucial, but this one is what restores humanity and dignity.

Twitter used to be great. I don't pay for it, so my reach is literally suppressed. But there was a time I was in a little community on there. Even once got a job that started with a Twitter friendship.

This is a good example of why I find Bluesky exhausting and not worth cross posting. You could write a piece that carefully lays out the evidence, and the first (and 2nd-4th) replies are Big Mad that you didn't just write the piece they wanted. X has its problems — many, many problems — but but the audience is bigger, the amplification wider, and the pushback at least occasionally is about the substance. Over here it's mostly people who agree with each other getting mad at anyone who doesn't validate the consensus. A group chat with a follow button.

Almost all of the dismissal of Bluesky as a viable alternative to X is based on hurt feelings.

My experience posting political blogs on X included threats, coordinated harassment campaigns, and almost no sharing of my work. None of this strikes me as particularly true.
