A brag that will be meaningless to all but 2.3 people reading this: after SIX MONTHS teaching myself to spin on a treadle wheel (I had a two-hour ~orientation courtesy of a family friend when I visited in-laws), I CAN SPIN COTTON ON AN ASHFORD TRAVELLER.

Must research cellulose dyes now... :)

People... are allowed to come up with mean names for inanimate objects. If you compare this practice to racial slurs, I'm going to think you believe people of other races hold the same concrete significance and value as inanimate objects. This is one of those slips that does not look good on anyone.

More seriously, I've never found any useful correlation between "how easy/hard I found this to do" and "how much the target audience enjoys the end result." Nor can audiences tell how much I LIKED working on XYZ. It's wild.

The new anime season has started, so I watched the premiere of May I Ask for One Final Thing? It's about a young noblewoman who gets fed up with her corrupt peers in high society and decides her fists are rated E for Everyone. It's hilarious and I rec it.

- sari silk: lovely, easy.
- alpaca: slightly tricky because short staple but oh so soft.
- catten floof: similar to alpaca, weirdly.
- bamboo: SUPER slippery. I don't love spinning this.
- Corriedale wool: makes me cry.
- merino: a good prep can be lovely.
- guanaco: AMAZING.

Spinning fiber "ratings" (these are highly individual!)
- tussah silk: EASIEST SPIN.
- mulberry silk, eri silk: slippery but lovely - "overspin" to get a stable single.
- cotton: can't spin reliably longer than 6" lolsob.
- ramie: delightful.
- tow flax: lovely & rustic, now I want to try line flax.

Surprising no one, I wanted to study medieval (siege) warfare /o\ although my uni's history dept had more social history and less military focus. (The dept was great!) But I figured it's impossible to understand medieval warfare without the socioreligious context and I could not hack Aquinas.
