For drug companies: this is fine! The amount of $ a drug company makes is complicated and involves a lot of middlemen expecting a cut and a discount. This cuts some of them out. The price you see on TrumpRx is probably a good proxy for what the drug companies had been clearing.

And, $ spent at TrumpRx is unlikely to count toward annual cap, so that saves insurers money.

From the insurers’ perspective: this is great! Some will be confused and not know to file for drugs that would have been covered; some (on expensive drugs like GLPs and biologics for autoimmune disorders) will drop insurance in favor of TrumpRx.

So, an insured person won’t use TrumpRx for most drugs. Notable exception: last-gen GLP1s may be cheaper on TrumpRx than with insurance. And, if your insurance has failed to pre-authorize a drug, maybe you’ll find a deal.

But this was rolled out quick and we really don’t know how this will work.

This is essentially a list of cash prices, similar to if you used something like GoodRx or a manufacturer discount card. Some of these price negotiations began during Biden (after the IRA).

You can’t use both insurance and TrumpRx (or GoodRx, etc.)
