This is a blind guess but maybe it has something to do with the scrolling effect for the background? It enhances the effect that the camera is "moving" right if there is more space in that direction, same effect as art that suggests a character on one side of an image moving toward an empty space.

I actually had a nightmare that the world was ending because Trump was going to launch a nuke at China and no one in particular felt like stopping him. Like, it was a certainty we'd all die, people just accepted it, nuke not launched. He just let everyone know and no one did anything. Felt real.
