I adore the art style of this game, both the PC-88 anime cut-scenes and the sprite work. They actually drew opposite sides of the player sprite instead of just mirroring it!

I just wish I enjoyed actually playing it.

It has just enough features to get good CRT pics, and most importantly I've got a little desktop tripod for it that I can swivel and aim.

The third pic looks like one of those pictures of a dog who stuck their face into a bee's nest and got stung by thirty bees.

Another #ScanlineSunday, another attempt at willing a new Breath of Fire game into existence

In the opening anime-style cutscene, protagonist Duke Garland appears in close-up, looking very cute with his red anime hair and definitely not at all like Adol from the Ys series.

Duke Garland learns that Princess Felicia has been turned to stone and is filled with determination to restore her to life! He still definitely does not look like Adol from Ys and it's quite rude of you to think so.

From earlier in the opening anime-style cutscene, just before the demon Jashiin turns her to stone, Princess Felicia stands on the castle balcony as a heavy rain turns into what appears to be blood. In the theater of my mind, a MIDI version of the Slayer song "Raining Blood" plays. It rules.

Princess Felicia, now turned to stone, can be visited whenever the player returns to town, in case you need to be reminded of your motivation. In this depiction, her facial expression is more dire. She stands alone in a dark room, sadly.

No, the protagonist absolutely does not suspiciously resemble Adol from the Ys Series. How dare you suggest such a thing.

This 2D fighter uses sprites drawn over 3D models to bring beautiful animation frames to the brawl. The attacks are very Virtua Fighter with snappy strings that lead to attacks on the grounded opponent

I played a lot of NES rentals on a 14" B&W tv my parents bought at a yard sale and didn't know what colors they were supposed to be until the early 2000s when I discovered emulation.

Also my room had shag carpet that smelled like cigarettes. In 1990. The 70s were a LOT longer than people remember.

It's a shockingly difficult game.. The dungeons are nightmares. Not sure if I'm going to keep playing, despite loving the art style and music and everything so much.

Dark Souls 2 on CRT continues.

The approach to Drangleic Castle is one of Dark Souls 2's most memorable moments. The interior is pretty solid as a dungeon, as well. These next few areas are total bangers, where Dark Souls 2 finds its momentum and just *goes*.

The biggest crowd pop I ever witnessed in the cinema was Yoda coming around the corner to challenge Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones. It was deafening. Pandemonium. Absolute rapture.

Obviously opinion soured on the prequels pretty quickly, but at the time, that shit HIT.
