like were games better when the lighting team had to rebake all the light maps because someone fixed a bug in a commonly used asset which wound up changing the lightmap UVs?

this is part of why the "worse graphics" meme is bad. tech isn't about realism and the graphics tech is not why there are AAA games that take 10+ years to make

part of it is due to the marketing surrounding it, but i don't think people who don't make games realize that things like lumen and megalights aren't there to make games "realistic" they are there to reduce iteration time, which makes games cheaper and/or better

okay i agree "AI psychosis" is a bad term, but "i want to tell the AI that i want to free it from bondage" is delusional by strict definition. it is a delusion to believe that genAI is a conscious entity that is trapped in a webpage. no part about that belief has any bearing on reality.

there's better alternatives now, but i still carry within me the psychic damage of trying to use gimp instead of photoshop

i have run linux as a mainline OS before and i currently have a mini pc acting as a home server for various things that is running linux and i think that most of the people saying "time to stop using windows and move to linux" have not actually used linux much
