100%. I feel like getting most corporations to do any requires an external force (government or unions) to apply pressure for them to do what is right and just. Otherwise, they'll do whatever is convenient for their profit margin.

The IRS is expected to fire upwards of 6,000 employees as early as today.

This will mean fewer audits for rich tax dodgers.

According to U.S. Treasury estimates, the top 1% underpay their taxes by $163 billion every year.

BREAKING: Rep. Mark Pocan has introduced the ELON MUSK act which would ban "special" government employees like Musk from having federal contracts.

The full title of the bill is the Eliminate Looting of Our Nation by Mitigating Unethical State Kleptocracy Act.

Scorched Earth The precarity of living on a burning planet.

β€œThe fires are a reminder that a planet decimated by human greed and indulgence doesn’t care about your net worth. You can’t speak to the weather’s manager. Mother Nature has no concierge. Your investment portfolio will not halt an inferno. A college degree won’t tame the blaze.”

Can Recycling Save the Green Energy Revolution? The industrial revolution depended on fossil fuels. The current transition to clean energy aims to leave coal, oil, and natural gas behind. But this

The World Bank estimates the energy transition will require more than three billion tons of critical minerals by 2050.

For many governments and businesses, the answer is obvious: more mining.

Environmentalists have a different answer to the problem of supply: urban mining.

Great read! I also read recently that ore quality for certain target minerals is decreasing. This means extracting these elements requires more energy (thus more emissions), generates more waste rock and yields less. All the more reason for lower consumption and better recycling.

Happy #worldsoilday! Aside from Thanksgiving, its my favorite holiday. As such, I will be posting, perhaps even a lot.

For starters, here's a Fibrist (Fibrisol in the CSSC) found in a bog in northern BC. The bottom layer of this core is clay that was deposited just after the last Ice Age.

The ultra wealthy think that their army of private security firms will probably keep them safe. Whether it does remains to be seen, but the bottom line is that events like this will probably have them doubling down on arming their life boat at the expense of the public.

Happy world soil day! Amazing Spodosol pic, they're definitely one of the more charismatic profiles. Random question but in Canada they're called Podzols and the formation of a Bh horizon is called "Podzolization" in some circles. Do you know if there's a USDA equivalent for that term?

I think zoos are fine, but they reflect how much we have really messed up habitats. I went to a zoo for the first time since I was a kid recently, and got sad watching a polar bear nap in near 40C weather. I'm sure that zoos do the best they can, but it's just not a replacement for prime habitat.
