Pressure falls 984 to 962hpa in 12hrs and 984 to 939hpa in 24hrs

Falls of 22hpa in 12hrs Friday morning and 45hpa in 24hrs through Friday

A fall of 24hpa or more in 24hrs denotes rapid cyclogenesis

Provisionally:
- Strongest August gust on record in Scotland
- Equal strongest August gust on record in Northern Ireland
- Lowest August mean sea level pressure in NW Scotland and Orkney since 1992
- Central pressure ⬇️ 28 hPa in 24 hours

With its large dry slot & pronounced 'hook', #StormFloris is a sight to behold as it crosses the UK this afternoon. If only it wasn't so disruptive, especially for Scotland.

Check out those long tails of cloud stretching out across the North Atlantic too. A windstorm with flair.

Note to self: level 0 for KNMI must be surface temperatures, not 2m temperatures because I'm not sure it's going to be 34c in London tomorrow...

I remember when the first ensemble run featured 40°C in England back in 2022. At the time it was generally dismissed, though some rightly noted that it means such temperatures are considered physically possible.

So seeing this today raises eyebrows. I’m not saying it’ll happen.
