Global map of temperature anomalies in October 2025 relative to the 1951-1980 average.

Temperature Update for October 2025

Third warmest October in the instrumental record.

Similar conditions to September.

A weak La NiΓ±a returns in the Pacific.

2025 is very likely to be the 3rd warmest year.

As of 20h, the lowest temp I can see on the #Highland #Wundermap is -7C at Inchbae Lodge (on the road to Ullapool). Meanwhile, a personal #wx stn in the deep Gleann Beag of #Glenelg is not far behind at -5.5C (having had an ice day too)

Hurricane Melissa produced the fastest hurricane winds to be recorded by a dropsonde, verified by reviewing data at NSF NCAR! Hurricane Melissa’s 252 mph wind gust surpassed the previous record from Typhoon Megi over the Western Pacific in 2010, where a dropsonde measured wind gusts of 248 mph.

World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

Anyone wondering why so many of us believe that the climate regime is fatally flawed, here’s the evidence:

Dark forces are preventing us fighting the climate crisis – by taking knowledge hostage | George Monbiot The fundamental problem is this: that most of the means of communication are owned or influenced by the very rich, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Climate breakdown is driven by a storm of lies. This lying is systemic, funded and coordinated, and operates across almost all media, old and new.
This week's column argues that we cannot fight the climate crisis without also fighting the epistemic crisis.

This is insane. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Why do tech giants like Elon Musk and Bill Gates keep on saying such dumb things about climate change?

They have access to the best possible experts, who could actually teach them something, if they would only ask and listen…

Thanks Lars - I expect there are quite a few inhomogeneities in the wind speed & gust record over the decades due to instrumentation changes; we briefly mention a few (e.g. Dines V cups) in Graham, E. and Smart, D., 2021. 'Hurricane' Debbie–60 years on: a fresh analysis. Weather (00431656), 76(9).
