As I consume more and more self-produced content (podcast, video essays, streams) I can't help but observe that a lot of creators do not have a good voice for media. Like, maybe audit a few courses in a broadcasting or acting? Or even just learn how to pronounce unfamiliar words before recording 😂

It's been a hot minute since I was involved with all that, but I recall Lacan being a big ole deal when I was in film studies. I think psychoanalysis probably lends itself well to film critique because that's kinda how a lot of movies frame the human experience.

Rewatching the Sex and the City episode where Aiden takes Carry to his country cabin. Why the heck would she be disgusted with this extremely nice cabin? Why would she wear a skirt and heels when we saw her sporting casual clothes in the city literally the previous episode?

I only ever bought the Round & Round 45 single, but it sounds like they had an lp's worth of good songs! I remember seeing another music video of their's where the song sounded like Round & Round. Figured it was a situation like the Kink's first few singles after You Really Got Me.

There's an entertaining 80s hair metal documentary on paramount+ (I think?). I watched it in one day. They don't shy away from all the r*pe, so pretty balanced. Despite all that, some of those recordings are perfection.

I think people need to apply this thinking to contested events, in general. This is not a "both sides" argument. Clearly, some media/government narratives are outright, manipulative lies. But I also don't think "post-truth" is 100% a bad thing. Many things can be true (or not true) at once.
