Were German citizens who killed Nazis during WW2 justified in doing so?

Pretty much happened to me. Same place I was politically as socially conservative-ish and economically moderate in the 1990s had me pegged as a libertarian in the late Aughts and a "radical leftist lunatic" in the mid 2020s. This guy had it backwards.
