Cuts to Medicaid The administration’s signature legislative achievement, a new budget law, OBBBA (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) cuts more than $1 trillion from Medicaid, the national health insurance program for the poor and disabled, and $285 billion from the country’s largest food program. The health care cuts will be implemented over several years and primarily target Medicaid – the joint federal-state program that provides health coverage to low-income individuals and families.
