Musk is famous for betting the house which is what he’s doing now. He’s going to pump Tesla money into xAI in the hopes that somehow he can compete with Google, Meta, Amazon and OpenAI. That’s a doomed sunk cost fallacy on a large scale.

In addition to the end of the $7500 EV credit and the evisceration of the CAFE program, no one talks about this much. Does anyone know how much this is pulling forward demand for Tesla’s battery storage products?

Down $5 after hours (though Musk’s lips haven’t started moving yet). Troy was $0.16 high on EPS and $300MM on revenue.

I expect it to be down hard tomorrow because the Muskites will be worried that Elon couldn’t gin up a measly $136MM in extra profits to meet analyst expectations.

Regardless of the chicanery, Tesla reported $0.68 per share Q3/24. They’re unlikely to beat that - Troy has them at $0.66. At $0.66 TTM earnings per share is $1.87 or a PE of 232 which is pretty pricey for a no-growth car maker with no new products and a litigation cliff swiftly approaching.

The Donbas had a pre-war GDP of around $27B and there's probably been $100B in damage to it because of the war. Russia is spending at least $100B/year on the war. It costs around $12B to build a large crude oil refinery. Russia has 38 significant refineries which Ukraine is busy destroying.
