You ever like, mid project & suddenly get an absolutely phenomenal idea for a game that wouldn't take all that long to make, so you start writing up your GDD & realise that you should, in fact, make this game because it could do numbers?

Because my goodness, I have a banger.

I think it's because the type of people who use genAI feel a sense of misguided ownership over the output. Realistically no two genAI songs are going to be identical, so they can avoid feeling like someone else contributed to their project.

tl;dr narcissism.

It's still garbage though.

I shouldn't have looked at the comments/quotes...

Wild double whammy of moving the goalposts & strawmanning here.

Have a good day too!

And finally, I'm not acting like people are wrong for it; people ARE wrong for it. It is an incredibly reactionary, throw-the-toys-out-the-pram response to an evolving situation where 5 minutes of thought & listening to what had been said would've answered most concerns.

Mishandling-wise, I genuinely don't know what they could've done better; the only thing I can come up with would've been a very nebulous statement declaring "Shit's on fire, we don't have answers, doing our best to mitigate" which might've helped but might've also made it worse.

As for having their livelihoods destroyed, I truly don't think that judgement could've been made in the 2 hours it took for people to start declaring that itch be burned at the stake, & I honestly doubt that it could even be made now given that it's only been a week?

30.07.2025 20:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'll happily tell it to whoever needs to hear it.

Anyone who lost revenue can turn their ire to the payment companies - the only choice itch had was a) some people lose money or b) everyone loses money & the site goes down. It absolutely sucks, but it's not on itch.

Damn you mean itch didn’t actually just abandon these creators but has been working hard with its limited resources to figure out how to continue supporting them? How surprising

Absolutely agreed. I can understand people being passionate when their livelihoods are on the line, but you've still got to try & direct your anger correctly.

There are still multiple people in the comments like "Too little too late" & I've just got to wonder what sort of world you live in where a company has less than a week to provide the perfect response to an existential threat else ruin their reputation forever?

Damn, almost like reacting with massive vitriol towards a platform that's always supported indies, has 0 rev share & frequent charity drives was a bit hasty with an hour's worth of information.

I've only had to use it to view anything NSFW on Reddit & Bluesky so far, and both just guesstimated my age from my camera, no ID needed as yet.

This, if anything, is encouraging me to play this game

Literally just mask off, moustache twirling degeneracy.

Absolutely despise this shit. The worst of money grubbing assholes.

Kind of a bit like a Greek myth in that regard, but with powerful humans playing the gods over lesser humans.

24.07.2025 19:04 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

My understanding is they created the world in order to enjoy the creation process & let the stories write themselves from the artists' input, but due to the warring between Renoir & Aline, they became casualties.

Had the 'gods' managed to control themselves, the mortals wouldn't have had to suffer.

I think for me it just solidified my belief that one ending was distinctly 'better' than the other, & it wasn't the one that seemed to be displayed more positively.

I wish they'd been more even handed in that regard, but I can choose to disagree with their assessment of their own ending ig πŸ˜‚

But this is a gargantuan task with a lot of pitfalls, most of which I probably don't know about.

24.07.2025 16:05 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't think it's necessarily unsolvable, just difficult.

What we need is a payment company set up with both legitimacy & accountability, with specifically politics-free online purchasing in mind.

If someone could set that up, it would bypass the need to interact with VISA/Mastercard at all.

24.07.2025 16:05 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah that's kind of the issue. Even BTC, arguably the most stable/reliable crypto, is subject to wild fluctuations out of basically nowhere.

It's not backed up by anything aside from the belief in its value from its own userbase. NFTs were the same, & we all saw how hard they crashed & burned.

24.07.2025 15:38 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's certainly one of the few good arguments for decentralisation & crypto in general, but I think the lack of security & instability that comes along with it, along with world dependency on centralised currencies for daily shit we need to live works too hard against it.

Nah you gotta just martyr yourself for moral purity or something. Cause & effect be damned.
