Today, I went to Richmond for the Heating and Cooling Building Code Study Group meeting where we discussed how to improve the Building Code to address residents' concerns around heating and cooling requirements. It was a fitting day to discuss air conditioning!

It was great to speak with the Alexandria Rotary Club today as they distributed grants to dozens of local nonprofits. Thank you for all you do for our community and thank you for having me!

I also wanted to highlight the amazing Alexandria City High School students I met at the rally who organize with Students Demand Action. Ruby's speech was inspiring and helped ground me in the importance of this work.

I was proud to attend and speak at the #WearOrange Rally at Market Square on Friday, hosted by @everytown.bsky.social and Alexandria Moms Demand Action. Every gun death is preventable, and I know together, we can end gun violence.

I'm excited that @abigailspanberger.com has included my proposal to protect and preserve affordable housing in her housing agenda! My bill to address VA's critical housing crisis has been vetoed two years in a row by Gov. Youngkin and I can't wait to elect a Governor who will sign and champion it.

Detained Georgetown scholar must have his case heard in Virginia, judge rules Badar Khan Suri, who has been detained in Texas for over a month, may challenge his deportation in Virginia federal court.

Dr. Badar Khan Suri is a scholar of peace and conflict resolution at Georgetown University and a legal resident of the US who calls Northern Virginia home. HB2653 repeals a tax credit that Virginia's watchdog agency found to be inequitable and ineffective. By repealing it, Virginia will save $4-5 million per year!

HB2104 was brought to me by a constituent and it clarifies how students can carry and trained teachers can administer seizure rescue medications in public schools.

HB1996 builds on a bill passed in 2024 to fix a minor issue that local governments and local newspapers were facing. The bill will help make sure that public notices remain in trusted local newspapers where they will be read by citizens.

HB1995 was brought to me by a constituent whose business that provides project management training workshops is regulated like a university. While I tried to exempt work like his from SCHEV regulation, the bill will instead study this issue.

HB1993 will help address the school bus driver shortage by allowing school districts to advertise school bus driver vacancies on the sides of school buses.

I'm grateful to have had 5 more bills signed into law. These bills came to me from constituents and my community, and I hope they will help students get to and attend school safely, support our small businesses, and improve our tax code. Yesterday, the Governor vetoed 3 of my bills and 154 others. These bills would have lowered prescription drug costs, raised wages, prevented violence, and much more. In November, we will replace him with someone who will prioritize VA families over corporations and the gun lobby.

Today is the Governor's deadline to act on all bills. So far, he has signed 5 of mine, with 3 to go. My constitutional amendment thankfully doesn't need his signature, but he has 456 bills including the budget left to act on in the next 6 hours!
