Election Day for the SD-39 and HD-5 special election is one week away! Vote early by February 7 at one of the locations in the pictures or vote on or before February 10 from 6 am to 7 pm at your polling place. If you've requested an absentee ballot, be sure to return it by February 10.

Today is the first day of early voting in the special election! Make your plan to vote, and be sure to vote in the jurisdiction where you live.

Yesterday was our seventh day of the legislative session, and I wanted to share some of my progress with you! I have personally met with 24 constituent groups, and had seven bills progress through the legislative process. Learn more about my bills and others at lis.virginia.gov

Polls are open for the firehouse Democratic primary for HD-5 until 7 pm! Vote at Charles Houston or Beatley Library.

Thanks to all who participated in today’s Democratic firehouse primary for HD-5. A special thanks to ADC volunteers who have worked so hard to organize and administer last week and today. I know it’s been a lot for voters across HD-5/SD-39 and look forward to improving the law around this process.

Later, I met with constituents from the National Federation for the Blind, Indivisible Do Something Alexandria, Big Money Out and the NAACP. Thank you all for joining me in Richmond and making your voice heard!

This morning, I had two bills pass out of subcommittee. One would create training materials on celiac for restaurants. The other would require families to be notified if an organ is retained after an autopsy. Both bills were brought to me by constituents and I am so grateful for their advocacy.

This morning, I was thrilled to have my bill to provide free breakfast for all VA public school students pass out of subcommittee unanimously! Children cannot learn if they are hungry. This bill is an investment in the health of our kids, our families, and our education system.

Later on, I changed into white for @abigailspanberger.com's State of the Commonwealth (because you can't wear white around a toddler).

I had some help answering the phones this morning and taking notes during my back-to-back meetings with the Sierra Club, Kaiser Permanente, the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers, Voices for Virginia's Children and the VA Coalition Against Human Trafficking!

It has been an incredible first day of session! We were sworn in, then we reelected @donscott757.bsky.social as Speaker and recessed to pass our 4 constitutional amendments out of committee. We then passed them on the floor, and we will pass them out of Senate Privileges and Elections tonight!

I have officially filed my paperwork to be on the ballot for the SD-39 special general election on February 10! Thanks again to all who voted, volunteered, and worked the polls yesterday. I'm excited to be the Democratic nominee and look forward to talking to more voters in the next few weeks!

Thank you SD-39 Democrats! I am thankful to democrats across Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax for placing their trust in me today, and I am excited to get back to Richmond and serve our community. I am looking forward to working on our shared priorities: lowering costs for families, funding our schools, standing up for our rights against Trump and MAGA extremists, protecting our communities from gun violence, and preserving access to our health care choices.

I am especially thankful for the volunteers who knocked doors, made calls, greeted at the polls and worked hard for this campaign in the last few days. I also want to thank the volunteers who jumped into action, staffed locations and counted ballots. Our democracy is stronger when more people participate. Finally, I want to thank the other candidates for stepping up and their willingness to serve in this election.

I am honored to be the Democratic nominee for SD-39. Thank you all!
