Thereโ€™s a lot of dubious arguments on X, thinking those who have left have done so to avoid the audience there rather than for ethical / engagement reasons. Me: still there so people who think differently see my work, which doesnโ€™t happen here / Insta. But case for leaving = v strong, absolutely.

YouTube video by TEDx Talks Why promote cycling? Climate and many other things matter | David Andrew Walker | TEDxChengdu

Posting (with considerable apprehension) my TEDx talk. Topic: My case for cycling as a way to mitigate against climate change. The talk didn't happen quite as originally planned, so it was filmed, in China and Essex. Please forgive any imperfections in my delivery. www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9cT...

Hand drawn graph, with title โ€˜on a day like todayโ€™. Vertical axis is โ€˜level of achievementโ€™, ranging from zero to high. Horizontal axis is โ€˜timeโ€™. Thereโ€™s two lines in the graph. One: a very low โ€˜targetโ€™ line, horizontal, just above zero. And 2, an โ€˜actualโ€™ line that wavers just above or below the โ€˜targetโ€™ one. At the bottom, text: โ€˜And thatโ€™s okโ€™

Drawn last week, when I wasnโ€™t doing that well. For anyone who is struggling a bit, for whatever reason. Itโ€™s OK to have days when we just get by.

A shame your views were disregarded. To me the big loss is the map, which used to just work, perfectly, and was so useful, and now - just doesnโ€™t. (Iโ€™m not normally the kind of person to moan online, but todayโ€ฆ)

Twenty little black and white cycling line drawings, as follows:
Itโ€™ll be worth it / great view from the top (person cycling up a hill).
Bike shed - caption 'Room for another one?'
This machine fights climate change (bicycle).
'Slow and steady wins the race'. Picture of person on upright bike.
Bike helmet with 'A safe route would be even better' written on it.
People cycling helps drivers, showing how cycling removes one car from the queue in front of you.
Cargo bike (yes you can). Picture of cargo bike carrying washing machine.
Ding dong. Bike bell. (Cyclists: Pass pedestrians with care).
Cycling helps the NHS, written inside a heart.
Thereโ€™s a bike for almost everyone, showing an adapted cycle.
Give us space - thank you. Diagram showing safe passing distance.
VIP transport (Very Important Pet). Pet in bike basket.
Picture of person on bike with caption 'Pays the same taxes you do'.
Folding bike picture, showing how they open up possibilities. Car boot, under your desk, on a train.
Take care please. Picture showing family on bikes ('could be your family') with car behind.
This weekโ€™s shopping, arrows pointing at shopping on bike.
E-bikes arenโ€™t cheating. Picture of bike going up hill.
'Largely fuelled by cake', written on a piece of cake with bicycle topper.
Where thereโ€™s a road let's make a safe bike route too. Shows bike route next to road.
'Have fun out there'. Two cyclists and a sign saying 'adventure', pointing in the direction they are going.

Rethinking everything.

If you have any idea or opinion about what a man drawing diagrams can offer the world that the world might pay for, Iโ€™d like to hear from you via any of the channels.

Cartoon: Cycling on a budget

Some ideas for getting going without spending too much money.

Lots of people have bikes they don't use in their garages and sheds.
Lots of bikes are bought with good intentions, but hardly used.
A 'hybrid' is a good choice.
See whether any of your friends or family have a bike they don't need.
You can get a really good bike by buying secondhand
Don't buy a really cheap new bike from the internet or non-specialist shop (Heavy; Cheap full-suspension worse than no suspension; Has it been properly set up?; Will probably break down)
Advantage of a budget bike: Far less risk of it being stolen
This year's model is often last year's, painted differently
You don't need all the bells and whistles to enjoy cycling*
*You need one bell
