Yes, indeed. We need things like this, I think.

#049 Ethan, do you want a sandwich? Thank you ITV Cycling / A year of Diagram Club on Substack

(Diagram Club 049, in which I write just a bit about this open.substack.com/pub/diagramc... )

You probably can’t read this without being a subscriber, but…

40 years of the Tour de France on Channel 4 then ITV, and it all ends this afternoon. And this year in particular has been exceptional. It’s been a part of my summer every year since I was a teenager, and I’m really sad about it.

I'm just not sure that I'm buying a house on Wombat Street (no offence to wombats, obviously)

I think 'no' is the answer. Matt has a business in South America, I think - if you look at his social accounts you'll see that he's there a significant amount of the time.

I take that point. This was drawn several years ago, just for info.

- 'State with terrible human rights record'
- 'Oil company that downplayed the risks from climate change for three decades'
- 'Sponsoring cycling makes us look green and ethical'

Such an important feature on TotalEnergies by ITV Cycling and Matt Rendell on the Tour de France rest day programme this evening. In support: a repost of this drawing.

All very well, but how do we know this isn’t MarshAI (who has clearly been trained on a no-booted man and a two-booted man and split the difference)

I hear you, though in a lot of places it is cars on the pavement that cause the blockages. But leaving that aside: But why are the bikes on the pavement? Why is the road space sacrosanct? Why can’t road space be taken away from cars for bike parking? That’s the point I’m trying to make here.

An excellent announcement of an announcement. If I’m so lucky I will prepare to make plans to be generally in, so you don’t have to resort to Safe Place / Preferred Neighbour

Cartoon showing street scene with lots of cars, some of which are on or blocking pavements. One bike is also parked on a pavement. A couple are saying β€˜Look - someone’s left a hire bike on the pavement’.

Cat food (sparse) in bowls. Cat, black and white, looking up at camera hopefully. Feet we can only assume belong to the photographer.

Three paragraph breaks (hand-drawn).
1. Did you read that properly? (Tick box - β€˜yes I did’). OK, please continue.
2. (Picture of a peninsula) Yes, it’s a peninsula.
3. Sign saying β€˜No lines here please’. Line across page avoids the sign by wiggling around it.

I draw paragraph breaks for my newsletter every week. Here’s some from last week’s. It’s free to receive, which you could argue is reasonable value. diagramclub.substack.com

Six pictures of butterflies.

Six pictures of butterflies.

Butterflies seen on a stretch of footpath near Basildon, Essex, this morning. Are there more butterflies this year, or was I just lucky?

[I think they are, from top left: Comma, Peacock, Marbled white, Small copper, Hedge brown, Meadow brown.]
