In the original (1970s?) landscaping of this road closure, there were seven trees, probably set too close together.

There has been steady attrition over the years, with only two now remaining.

Hoping that some will get replaced as part of the new scheme.

As well as information on the stars and shows at Streatham Hill Theatre, our collection of programmes gives a facinating look at the history of the area. Take a look at these ads from 1932.

This makes me so angry: I requested accessible versions of the so-called "Inclusive" Talent Strategy consultation a month before it closed. Got nothing. City Hall's response? We'll provide them from 1st Aug - two weeks AFTER the main consultation ended. How is that inclusion?? 🧡

A reminder of how long ago April 2023 was: X was still Twitter back then. And yet the government thinks nothing of enough significance has happened since to make it review whether it should use X...!

I think most of them may be a bit too large to move successfully, particularly if a hosepipe ban is imminent. However there do appear to be a few (self seeded) smaller plants that might be movable.

Don't forget to wear gloves/goggles when handling Euphorbia- the sap in the stems is not nice stuff!

Some of the details included this letter from TfL can be found on their website, but much is not.

All such documents really should be online in full in accessible formats.

New letter from TfL on the A23 Streatham Hill "Transformation" is starting to be delivered in SW2 side streets today.

Suggests that TfL are now hoping for only one night closure on
*Sunday 3rd/Monday 4th August* in advance of work starting to dismantle central reservation and planters.

a reminder of how awful London's Tories are. In the council meeting on Wed there was a vote to spend Β£20m buying homes to house some of the hundreds of local families in temporary accomodation. Merton Tories have sent out this piece of vileness

This July is quite a contrast to last year. In the first 11 days of July in 2024, on Streatham Hill SW16, we had a total rainfall of 47mm and only two dry days. The highest temperature was 24.3ΒΊC on the 11th. So far, the mean maximum is >27ΒΊC and 21mm of rain with seven days of <1.0mm rainfall.

Wherever you see new street trees planted, you should be watering them as much as you can in weather like this.

Contractors aren’t infinite and omnipresent, so instead of complaining street trees died please do your bit to keep them healthy.
