Trump was stifled enough by legacy Republicans during his first term to get away with a relatively inoffensive record. He took positions on inflation and immigration that were widely popular. People tuned out of politics were incapable of appreciating how bad he was, esp. for Jan. 6.

My dream job would be coming up with ideas like this and trying to implement them at every level of government. Random bureaucratic and organizational tweaks that don’t fully fix things but make progress more likely.

I’m weird for a liberal in that I feel positively about federalism and don’t want maximum centralization. Trump has made the best case possible for that view.

Real talk though, what the hell is the matter with Sig handguns? I see stories about misfires all the time, yet they have massive military contracts? Would so much rather have a CZ, Smith and Wesson, Glock, etc.

Are the issues basically solved with approval voting? No issue with too many candidates from a party and there’s more meaning to minority party supporters engaging. Approval-runoff has been my favorite for single winner for a while now.

A write in nomination in the general defeats the purpose of this system. The party labels and endorsements piece is a nice touch though.

There's a legitimate debate between a 1 year old and a 10 year old. But if given the choice (with no confounding moral factors), we should clearly save the life of a 10 year old over an 80 year old. I often find "bioethicists" have socially harmful views.

I mean, I don't know the specifics as they would come up in a particular situation. There could be issues with getting sufficient space for the amount of solar capacity needed. Would need energy storage to make it reliable as well. the transmission could be difficult go get approval and permits.

I think they'd be happy to invest in whatever energy sources are dependable and possible to build out. The problem is it's impossible to build infrastructure for anything a lot of the time.

One thing that comes through awfully clearly in these ICE videos is how many of these goons gravitated toward the job because being able to assault people with impunity is a big thrill for them.

I just hope by the time I have kids that there are decent and well-known options that avoid the worst of the brain rotting.

I mean, I have my issues with Weiss, but what kind of criticism is this? She launched an incredibly successful news organization. She was previously at the NYT and the WSJ before that. Seems like it's an attempt to shoehorn something topical into a desired grievance.

Make the continental US two time zones: American Eastern Time and American Western Time, UTC -6 and UTC -7, respectively. Make the time zone boundaries the eastern borders of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. We'll all adapt and be marginally but appreciably better off.

Hi @jazco.dev I was wondering how hard it would be to include a 7-day rolling average to the stats page you so helpfully created. Would make it easier to see the “real trend” over time without the day to day lumpiness.

Yeah a lot of supplements require an additional supplement to keep things in balance or properly absorbed. Vitamin D requires K2 (for proper absorption). Zinc and copper require each other (imbalance of one or the other will make you sick). B12 might need B9?
