All my cats have had outdoor access, on average they live to 18 or 19 and haven't had traumatic deaths. Locking the cat flap to keep them in after dinner and until breakfast keeps them safe overnight and gives the local wildlife a break from being poked and stared at.

It depends where you live. In a lot of the UK the land isn't suitable for arable farming so we have animals grazing outside, we use their dung as fertiliser. If you want to be vegetarian fine, but it's not compulsory for anyone who supports the environment. Pesticide and herbicide use is problematic

Depends on the cat to be honest. My mother had a cat who you could do that with and he was fine. It takes a brave person to find out though, she just assumed all would be well and it was.

Wow! A day like that must consist partly of happiness at how many people love your work and partly of wishing that it was all over. I always feel slightly bad when I order a signed copy for that reason...

I've been there. Ours was cheese omelette delivered to the hotel room in Sri Lanka to avoid the shame of eating it in public. It was after 2 weeks of eating everything that India had to offer. You'll be back out there in no time 😀

Car prices have gone the same way. Buying a cheap-ish decent car and insuring it used to be pretty much a given. Now a lot of people are stuck with finance deals because the initial outlay has got silly. And insurance is insane for young drivers. The joy we had from first jobs has gone.

A great opportunity to try Tom's writing if you haven't already. This is a lovely little book
