The last full Moon of 2025 shining over Dublin. The December full Moon is called the cold Moon and for good reason. It was a flipping cold night to be out with the telescope. But it’s a magnificent site all the same. themoon.ie

If you have time to spare the IAS are exhibiting some magnificent astronomical photographs at the visitor centre in the Phoenix Park. irishastrosoc.ie/event/ias-as.... We are delighted to be showcasing the talent of Irish astrophotographers. The exhibit will run throughout November.

I was very honoured to receive my medal of office tonight as President of the Irish Astronomical Society from past president Mick McCreary. As a society we have big plans to bring the joys of astronomy to more and more people. I’m looking forward to the adventures ahead

I can’t put it in my window, as per tradition, but it is lighting to remember those who can’t come home, for those who have no home and for those forced from their homes throughout this year. We don’t know how lucky we are with our comfort, food, luxuries.

At 3:02 pm today 21.12.24 (Irish time) we will be at winter mid point. From this point onwards we will start the slow journey out of winter. Today is a very short day but from now on we will be talking about the stretch in the evening. 😂
