Thank you to our keynote speaker Karen Hanghøj for a fascinating talk at last night's @geolsurvie.bsky.social Geoscience Lecture. Thanks also to our wonderful panellists, Marie Cowan, Pat Meere and Michael Stock, and moderator Eoin McGrath for a wide-ranging discussion about geoscience and net zero.

The SLS can only launch at certain times when Earth and Moon are at specific relative positions. A few days each month there is a 2 hr window in which to launch. If the launch is delayed beyond this window, they have to wait for the next. Scheduled for February, it could be April before it launches

The last full Moon of 2025 shining over Dublin. The December full Moon is called the cold Moon and for good reason. It was a flipping cold night to be out with the telescope. But it’s a magnificent site all the same. themoon.ie

I was very honoured to receive my medal of office tonight as President of the Irish Astronomical Society from past president Mick McCreary. As a society we have big plans to bring the joys of astronomy to more and more people. I’m looking forward to the adventures ahead

I can’t put it in my window, as per tradition, but it is lighting to remember those who can’t come home, for those who have no home and for those forced from their homes throughout this year. We don’t know how lucky we are with our comfort, food, luxuries.

At 3:02 pm today 21.12.24 (Irish time) we will be at winter mid point. From this point onwards we will start the slow journey out of winter. Today is a very short day but from now on we will be talking about the stretch in the evening. 😂
