Institutional transphobia means trans people are absented from institutional discussions about their lives. In courts, the absence of trans voices leads to abstracted doctrinal analysis that fails to grasp the impact of decisions on trans lives. We need to challenge this legal politics of erasure.

The state of the newspapers this morning: a near-universal attack on trans people, most of it grossly exaggerating the implication of yesterday's ruling. Almost joyous in its spite.

“Gay ideology” usually refers to gay people being visible, expressing our identities, forming communities, fighting for our rights, etc. Now “gender ideology” evokes similar in relation to trans folk. And when LGBT people become an “ideology,” our humanity degrades and we become targets for erasure.

Masses of people deported. Trans folk erased. Abortion denied. Sex policing. These are examples of current authoritarianism. We can defeat such politics by connecting across issues and refusing division. If you’re “pro-LGBT” but racist or “pro-migrant” but homo/transphobic, you only enable fascism.

Do not, I repeat, do not, submit a passport application, which involves a gender correction at this time. It appears the US state department has been instructed to cease processing those applications and to seize any and all documentation submitted in support of the application.

I don't have the big answers cause I'm just a nobody but I know personally. I can stop giving them my money and start looking at who and how I can support those who are also building resistance.

In my mind that is not trying to pretent it was something else. Then asking ourselves what steps do we take now to reduce their influence and power political, social and economic.

I think at the very heart of 'never forget' is finding the courage to say no and do what needs to be done when people in power show you they are n@zis
