I am way more concerned by the idea that a 5 year old is learning "science", or god forbid a 2 year old is learning how to say words, from a bunch of AI nonsense than I am about a 14 year old maybe watching some porn. Yet what is the government focus on?

Every day I am more concerned about the amount of time, money, and energy businesses are about to waste on exploratory GenAI projects. None of this stuff works, no one is using it for anything useful, and yet we're all going to spend half a year building AI tools that will lose us money.

What really confuses me is the lack of social pressure here. When I was at uni there were adverts to hire people to write your essays, but the concept was so mercilessly mocked that no one I knew ever did it. AI is so embarrassing, how is that not the takeaway?

The best possible scenario is that GenAI actually works for a while before the eventual dead internet poisons the training data required to keep them working. So it's a temporary technology. The worst case is a continuation of what I'm seeing now (work quality dropping as firms rely on it).

My take on GenAI is that companies are going to spend the next year or two letting it seep into their projects, before uncovering some huge problem that will require a whole lot of extra work to untangle. It's going to cost us. The consumers and the workers. The CEOs won't see it coming.
