Why does 'finding the fun' fail so often as a design strategy?

New designers are told to prototype and 'find the fun'. But the naive version of this is a garbage tactic that mostly results in poorly thought out prototypes that are never going to converge on gameplay.

I don't know ow why, but I dreamt that I was working on a mobile game tie-in to the new Linkin Park album.

Weirder still, it was 3 different kart racing style games whose rewards fed into the other.

I had such a great time talking to @amaanhk.bsky.social and Raghav about Bludgeon, my start in the hobby, life in Hyderabad, chai... and a bunch of other stuff!
