It's been 1 thing after another for the past 2 yrs. Traffic death, illness, more death, all in the family. You start to wonder what the shit news will be when you get out of bed today. I'm recovering from breast cancer surgery, soon to undergo radiation. I'm better off than others, but it's not fun.

Why is empty box not in recycling? Because food in it. Why are coffee grounds in garbage, not compost? Because absorbs stink of garbage. I answer without irritation + shake my head invisibly when he rearranges dishes before starting dishwasher. For weeks I haven't touched him as I pass.

When you live with a person who at times is so stupid you can't believe it ... let them. How hard can it be?

Still advising Himself to stay away longer now that he's got a cold + feels shitty. What's the rush to return? I say. Stay there till the exhausting drive home won't set you back. Will he listen? I wish. It's been so nice not to have someone around who can always find something to bitch about.

What do I not miss when Himself's away? Loud long farts; the sound of explosive diarrhea behind the bathroom door; repetitive ranting about politics; crumbs + dirty dishes left on the counter; his nose out of joint when I don't provide a supper of meat + potatoes; his critical eye ...

The first thing I do when Himself leaves for a few days is wash the bedding + remake the bed. Then I set his pillow aside + put mine smackdab in the middle. His holiday in the city with his son's family is my holiday here at home. No one is ranting. No one is making a mess + leaving it for me.

Himself talks about his veggie garden to anyone who'll take the tour. I go because I know what pleasure it gives a gardener to share what excites him. When I invite him to tour my flowerbeds with me right after, he is reluctant + sneers, "Can you eat this?" Sometimes it's hard to like him.

Up to 6:00 before having a toke (pot, since you asked) and pleased with myself for not knuckling under to my cravings and habits any earlier in the day. I've tried to do this many times before and failed. This gradual method is working for me and wasn't too tough at all.

Today is the end of the week of waiting till at least 4 pm to have my one wee toke. So far I've been proud of myself for not giving into the cravings earlier in the day. So far, so good! Tomorrow: 5pm.
