Suppose you woke up hungry. You want scrambled eggs. You’re opening the fridge but you realize you’re all out of eggs. So you begrudingly put on some clothes and go to the grocery store to get those eggs. You get those eggs, come back, you beat them, and then you heat up the frying pan. But now you realize that you’re out of butter. Oh well, that’s unfortunate, you have to go to the store again. Luckily the store is just a few minutes away. You get the butter, come back, reheat the pan, put the butter and eggs on it. But now you realize you’re out of bacon. Suppose you really wanted bacon with it today. So you eat the scramble, go fetch the bacon from the store, and finally fry it too. How would you optimize this process?
