That is a Tarantula Hawk wasp and what's happening there is it has paralyzed the spider to lay its eggs inside of so that the larvae have something to eat when they hatch. Nature is metal.

Best news I've seen all year.

Went back out this morning and he was still there sleeping. Managed to nab him and get him into a box for transport to the raptor rehab at the local zoo. He was still alert, but very weak and didn't put up much of a fight. The zoo rehab he just needs food and fluids. #birds #raptors

After talking with a zoo worker, they suspect it's a fledgling that's been struggling to catch food. Planning on going out tomorrow to assist them with capture!
