I wonder if that’s also behind a lot of the very bad reviews I saw. This was a movie with many flaws so I expected some, but if there was an existing fan base and the first big outing wasn’t what they expected, doubly so if they crowdfunded, then that would explain the extra vitriol

Watched most of the credits and saw tons of everything, more than a movie would usually have. The YouTube credits seemed weird but by the time the crowdfunding credits started I had an idea of what happened. A little looking shows me the director has worked a lot on YouTube before

Knew nothing going in and found the documentary portions an odd fit with the rest, but mostly chalked that up to lack of finish since it does come back towards the end. Then I saw all the producer and co-producer credits at the start of the end credits and that perked my ears up

Current again with #100HorrorMoviesin92Days 103, Shelby Oaks (2025, in theaters now). I liked this one a lot even with the odd structure and same lack of finish as Black Phone 2. As noted elsewhere I love a desperate, grieving woman going too far down the wrong road and ending up in A Bad Place

Tried a couple different seats (no one else here) before finally finding one that would recline without sounding like it was going to stab me in the kidney over it. Next time I’ll try a seat on the outside instead of up the middle

The race for NYC mayor and VA governor are similar only in that they are both races for elected office, and we would need a very different reality for a socialist candidate to be allowed into the VA governor race, but you just can’t compare someone with real enthusiasm vs the grim duty of Spanberger

As a Virginian I would love the young, engaging, proud socialist over the veteran of law enforcement, CIA, and probably some other kind of cop job who is the smallest possible amount left of the dividing line between left and right to qualify as a Democrat

I’m reluctant to mention them together because their work is not similar but I think Scott Derrickson and C Robert Cargill might be in the batting average conversation with Benson & Moorhead in the partnership category

It didn’t really do anything new but it was very successful in whatever it did (excepting the superfluous final shot jump scare, the only blight). It’s rare that I like a movie this much and there’s no notable new-to-me actress involved. I bet the sequel is disappointing but I will be finding out

102 in #100HorrorMoviesin92Days, Sinister (2012), I thought I had seen but turns out I had not. Great sweater on Hawke for much of it and James Ransone as Deputy So and So is a treat. I liked this one a lot. Lots of The Ring vibes, though lacking Naomi Watts (which is a shame)

I’m a fan of yellow and wish more teams would use it but what the fuck are the Steelers uniforms?

Had a nice bleak ending going and then tripped at the finish line with a jump scare final shot

It should have been a huge red flag to move the family out of a nice and large house into a smaller and less nice random suburban house and leaving the first nicer house empty to do so

Having the “you moved us into the murder house?” talk because your daughter made friends with a ghost. Least believable part of this movie so far is that the wife has not simply murdered the husband for gross and intentional fucking up

Dad who’s so fixated on personal success/family prosperity that he doesn’t realize he’s crashing out and putting the whole family in existential danger is also a fertile subgenre

Dude has as much faith in a baseball bat as Loomis did in a revolver and I’d bet they’re equally effective

Hulu putting 5 commercial breaks in the first 23 minutes of a movie is just wrong, and that doesn’t include the ads before the movie started. At least they’re done for the rest of the way

Might have to finally give it a shot, with the appropriate mood enhancers

I shouldn’t be surprised I guess but it’s wild that I went into a Total Wine looking for a hard cider and found a THC beer instead. Have to live Virginia and it’s wacky weed laws
