Quite, or that there are TTOs and countermeasures emerging all the time. It’s like the designer of the panzerfaust announcing that their millions of tubes will defeat allied armoured formations as though the crews, commanders and planners don’t get a say.

Sure, but as you pointed out it’s performing the same role as conventional air power and artillery. That’s why I don’t buy this drones as a game changer idea, they are another tool and very useful but anyone who thinks they are an alternative to conventional forces is making a mistake.

At which point conventional forces come in until the other side runs out (or you can destroy their capacity to build more). Ultimately it’s still a form of ablative armour surrounding g conventional forces.

Their argument presupposes nobody developing any sort of anti-drone countermeasures, jamming or indeed just having sufficient conventional resources to deal with the ‘master plan’ they keep going on about like some sort of pound shop Bond villain.

What I don’t get is how these people can’t see that this ends up with two sides hurling cheap autonomous drones at each other until they run out and the side with the most effective conventional weapons wins.

It’s Batman syndrome - he sees problems and wants to fix them but only in ways that make him look cool and exciting.

It’s a really neat demonstration of the fact that people see a lot of professions as ‘content generation’. The human element doesn’t matter as long as the content gets generated. Everything else aside, that’s a route to a soulless society.
