How long are we going to hear about โ€œlegitimate debates and concerns about immigration?โ€ Itโ€™s time we told the truth and deal with it. Net migration is low, we need more migrants, we are an ageing population. Highly skilled and low paid jobs are dependent on migrants. We need safe and legal routes.

As an addon, EE are advertising "For just ยฃ14 a month Inc VAT play 100+ Xbox games on your android device. Xbox console or Windows 10 PC." The latter doesn't seem like the benefit that they think it is. (I mean, it's not for me anyway, but advertising for a defunctish OS seems odd.)

If they're called slippers, do the people who throw the displaced snow on to the track again get called slingbacks?

Allianz mileage mix-up costs reader hundreds of Euro โ€“ The Irish Times - Ireland Despite the fact that we switched to the metric system more than 50 years ago and all our road signs now and most of our cars deal in kilometres when it comes

Another consequence of the UK's failure to switch to kilometres

It seems the same computer system was being used across UK and Ireland for some car warranty applications, and km-odometer readings in Ireland were taken to be miles, leading to overcharging.

When will TV shows and media go fully metric? All products are in metric in the shops. Science uses metric. Imperial hasn't been taught for a couple of generations now, yet Gladiators talks about a "16 foot drop" (although contestants' stats are in metric).
Mad that we persist with crazy units.

The NFL limited the number of wheeled vehicles the producers could use to transport the sets, so they had to make all the plants come in wearing rubber-soled shoes.

Inside Bad Bunnyโ€™s Historic Super Bowl Halftime Show Bad Bunnyโ€™s Super Bowl performance required 9,852 theatrical pyrotechnics, nearly 400 costumed extras, and a lot of ingenuity. And yes, that was a real couple featured in the wedding.

Wired has the full story of how the show was put together, and some deliciously detailed diagrams from the production company.

I was watching BBC4 with my (elderlyish) parents this evening and we had Call My Bluff then this on, for both entertainment and curiosity/a glimpse into the past. I was looking up about half of the guests that appeared... then your post came into my timeline! So glad to see your comments, thanks!

Before lockdown, the belief was that people would slack off at home. What I saw though was that people were, and still are, too demanding of themselves when WFH.

In the office I think nothing of spending 15mins making a coffee and chatting. Iโ€˜d never do that at home.

Feels like the idea of personal responsibility for the environment has sort of ended, the assumption seems to be weโ€™re going to solar and battery and nuclear and dump in space our way out of it in the long run so itโ€™s back to consuming as much as possible

Hey, my name is in the Epstein files! I've told the story before, but should probably re-up.

TLDR: never met the guy, never took (or asked for) any money from him, never visited the island. I was invited to the island, and said no.

It's not that hard to just say no.

โ€˜Absolute hellโ€™: Irishman with valid US work permit held by Ice since September Seamus Culleton has been in a detention facility in Texas for nearly five months despite having no criminal record

This is absolutely insane. The sort of Kafka-esque nightmare you would find in a Philip K Dick book set far in the dystopian future. A window on America tumbling into autocracy.
