(I want to say the correct answer is tourism is better in the South. Taipei may be considered crowded enough already, and the South has a greater need for the tourist spend. But how do the experiences stack up?)

Really, it’s a shame for Taiwan and the rest of the first island chain that Israelis get first dibs on what appears to be rare-on-the-ground kit just because they’re funny, (often) helpful, personable, generous, smart, innovative, and have efficient cows. Well, maybe not that last one but they do.

The U.S. would be wise to fulfill its obligations laid out in the Taiwan Relations Act and put paid to the notion that any “Taiwan contingency” may well simply be the snapping of the Thucydides Trap.

I don’t think the U.S. has a leg to stand on with its argument that Taiwanese military personnel often turncoat. Bad, late gear from uninterested foreigners who promised in writing to care but don’t doesn’t incentivize fighting for them.

Clearly, the U.S. has had other priorities and it may be necessary to bribe, cajole, etc. even to get materiel that’s likely already been paid for delivered.

I’m just gonna put this out there, but no matter how much ‘Bridge Colby might wish it, I don’t think we’re gonna see Israeli levels of military readiness (civilian or otherwise) until and unless good kit that could help stops going to waste bouncing off of Iranian reinforced concrete.
