And Marin

(Not that I endorse being abusive - but I have so many stories. I had two male staffers who responded to direct performance feedback with "we'll have to agre to disagree". One quickly self-corrected. The other had to be fired.)

I suspect there are two things: 1) lots of abusive male bosses, but there are greater repercussions from complaining/exposing a man(see Andrew Cuomo), and 2) employees are much more less likely to take direction from a female boss than a male boss. One tactic is to make your employees fear you.

Best Sacramento band ever.

I'll add that I think there is also room for regulation of weight or weight + speed. There is no reason a non-cargo bike needs to weigh 80 pounds, and that is far more likely to hurt someone than a 40 pound bike.

My bike is an alternative to driving for meetings up to about 10 miles away. The bike path north of San Rafael can safely accommmodate higher speeds. It's adjacent to 101, with long distances between entrances and exits. There aren't kids, pedestrians, or intersections.

I literally couldn't go North from my house if banned from bike paths! The only other option is the freeway. Forcing Class III bikes out of bike lanes would cause me to sell my bike. I wouldn't ride in a car lane. Too scary. I'd drastically reduce my range on a Class II. Marin is too spread out.

I will take the case that they are good and should not be banned from bike infrastructure, but subject to speed limits. I've ridden 1,400 miles on my Class III ebike in the last year - all instead of driving. I wouldn't have done it if banned from bike paths or limited to 20mph on the road.

When Ezra Klein says that Democrats would do better running pro-life candidates, what I hear is that the Big Donors he listens to prefer pro-life candidates. They don't care about women's rights, and Klein thinks the Big Donors are more important than the voters.

They never believed they could learn anything from someone who wasn't a white man. If they understood anything about why diversity matters, they would be doubling down on diversity on their boards, not going for a monoculture.

I wonder if the teachers in Marin County are as dumb as ... thinks. Imagine getting a job in Tiburon as a teacher then saying I can't afford to live here please build me a cheap house. Not a small home but a big home but not too expensive.

I worked in Manhattan for 4 years because I had to and liven in New Jersey where I could afford an apartment. Nobody built me a cheaper home. But to say you can't afford a home in Marin is being a cry baby. Don't Solano, Napa and Alameda counties have schools. Here's what they should do. Find a home they can afford then look for the job. Same goes for cops and firemen. I don't want somebody living next to me that can't afford to live here.

I earned my way to Marin and so should everybody else.

Happy Saturday night email. I guess he's OK if we close our schools, police departments and fire departments?

Sweatshirt that Says β€œSausalito” Once Again Marin’s Top Export

Thus far in 2025 alone, Marin has shipped several million tons of hoodies and crewnecks that say β€œSausalito” globally, as the county continues to focus its export economy on tourists who get chilly on rental bikes. The only other commodity produced in any volume by the region are freshman headed to the University of Boulder.

Once again, Marin Lately is right on the nose. Although, it's way too optimistic with "several million". Tourist visits are not that high.

And of course, have to provide the evergreen reminder that 66K commuters come into Marin because we've pushed our workforce out. That traffic would be better if we allowed workers to live here. And if had SB 79.

Fairfax switch: Massive housing plan will get streamlined review The town planning director, reversing his earlier position, says a proposal for a 243-apartment building can be handled ministerially.

So, Fairfax has finally come to their senses, thanks to Yimby Law and HCD. Ihttps://www.marinij.com/2025/09/11/fairfax-switch-massive-housing-plan-will-get-streamlined-review/

I suspect in Marin it's because the local coverage was so poor. It was only highly misleading op-eds. I couldn't convince people that bus stops weren't included in the bill.

12.09.2025 15:34 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Interesting that he wanted to save Sausalito, and not Tiburon.

Non- urban transit counties had lesser density requirements for Tier 3. These would have applied to ferry landings and SMART. That was pulled last week.

12.09.2025 14:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Originally, it applied to SMART train also. That would have been very good.

12.09.2025 14:30 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

yes, & more annoying is that no one in Marin realizes that Marin is not affected. The only local coverage were op-eds crying that this will create housing towers in single family neighborhoods and that it applies to current and future bus stops.

12.09.2025 06:01 β€” πŸ‘ 15    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Congrats! (just sad that there's no Marin in here. It would have been so good for the SMART train)

I'm only sad that they removed Marin last week. And even with Marin gone, Connolly still voted against it, even though he claims to be a transit guy.

12.09.2025 05:25 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Marin County Supervisor just said in public meeting that 'we sure don't want the growth of Silicon Valley, but we want the innovation and transit.' This is the fundamental Marin falacy. You don't get the benefits of urbanism without have some urbanism. You need people.

Belvedere to form policy for historic site decertification The city lacks a process for property owners who want to cancel their special status now that the tax advantage is being phased out.

Belvedere recently removed the tax break. Now homeowners are trying to get decertified. www.marinij.com/2025/08/12/b...

It's terrible for the student athletes who now have to cross the country on a weekly basis. And it's not just football players- all student athletes in the CA Big 10 schools are now road warriors.

Speaking for Marin - the poor people here, in general, work far harder than the rich. Many of the poor are working multiple jobs. Many of the rich don't work or don't work full time.

I think you need a real city to find slices. I know a number of places in San Francisco that has them, but none in Marin. In the burbs, you only get slices at a food court or bowling alley.
