So tonight I sat down to write my thoughts on how theatre classes reinforce the binary and this is one of my main points in opposition to the idea that the binary is a systemic part of theatre.

Agreed and that’s a subject for another musing I’m working on. How theatre I supposed to be an inclusive space but has a tendency to reinforce gender norms and binaries.

Crafting Theatrical Magic: Building Worlds Through Theatre Design

I am publishing as an OER with the university work at so nothing difficult on that end. The hardest part about the writing process was condensing my quirky thoughts and teaching style into words. I focused on inclusivity with UDL.

Today I finished the first draft of the last chapter of a Textbook I’ve been writing. I still need to source images for three chapters but the writing is done. Wild.

Today was an odd day. Because I really spent a lot of time relaxing and focused on myself and my family. I played games, cooked dinner, with only a minimal amount of nonprofit work. It was nice. Remember to disconnect a bit.

I agree. This distinction between Pre-K - 12 and Higher Education is limiting. We are all educators. We are all shaping the minds of young and younger people. More collaboration, more ownership, and more working together will bring about change.

When you take on the role of Professor do you forget that you are also teacher? So many people reach out to me regarding Teaching While Queer wondering if we have interest in people who work in Higher Ed.

Why does the culture of higher education makes folx feel excluded from the word teaching?

Schools should empower, not erase. Compulsory heterosexuality pressures students and teachers to conform. By challenging bias, using inclusive language and advocating for #queer representation, we can create affirming spaces. How do you make your school more inclusive? Drop a comment.
