Big storm just finished and it was indeed raining cats and dogs, so we adopted one. Meet Moose (formerly Melvin). He's just as goofy and happy as he looks, and in the limited interactions they've had, he and Murphy are getting along great.

I literally reared my head back in horror reading the first headline, and then again with the second. Several hours later, I'm also recognizing these are both cases of Black bodies being put on the line for democracy and freedom, as has been true through our country's history.

Prove to us you will fight for Democracy, Senator Durbin. What legislative steps can be taken besides stating displeasure? How can the Senate Democrats use the attention they have to clearly message to the country as large how dangerous this is? Give us something to get behind.

As a constituent, THANK YOU. Please push Senator Durbin to make a similar statement and continue to speak to your Democratic colleagues who are on the fence. We're begging our representatives not to cede the power of Congress as a co-equal member of government.

Like the others, I've called and can't get through, emailed and faxed you. NO on cloture, NO on the so-called CR. The government is already in shut down and this CR cedes enormous power to Musk and Trump. Democrats need to assert the power of Congress as a co-equal branch of government.

This is unacceptable, and as an identifiably Jewish academic, I have to say: Not in my name. I refuse to be the government’s excuse for xenophobia, Islamophobia, and anti-Palestinian racism. This is not for my safety, and it never will be.
