They got a terrible TV pilot in 1991. Does that count?

I tell my students to look up anything they find on Google Scholar in the university library's collection. At least Proquest has some level of vetting publishers.

I used to get them in Miami in my CSA and at farmers markets. The flavor and texture transform interestingly when they're roasted. I found that they substitute well for pumpkin in sweet potatoes in dessert recipes.

I've found that I'm getting more rapid disconnects from chat. I think the little portrait (actual me, not the breakfast face I use here) means those who wanted AI leave. As for the fake cites, why would someone lazy enough to use AI want to actually read the papers before citing them?

I was working at a movie theater duplex showing both. Weeks of extra showings of both, all packed. The manager didn't hire any extra staff, so we kids were all working 80 hour weeks. Pretty intense summer.

Looks like Sweet Glory in San Francisco.

To be fair, he encountered those on the surfaces of planets. This is the first life he's seen actually floating in space. That may be giving Stan too much credit, though.

I'm curious about your "so-called". The Monster Island staff considered them friends, and Anguirus was the first to catch on to Mecha Godzilla's disguise. Do you consider Godzilla incapable of friendship?

Thread. I suggested that this was likely to happen in someone else's mentions the other day. Gaiman is no longer laying golden eggs, there's no reason for DC not to kill him,

I've been looking at the usage stats at my university library, and our various brief introduction series circulate well. Useful when you can't remember a thing from the prerequisite class and need to get up to speed quickly.

Bluesky post, handle removed: It's weird how the whole genre of "incomprehensible horror beyond our comprehension" could mostly be chalked up to HP Lovecraft being a paranoid racist.

While eldritch abominations had always existed before he was born, Lovecraft manages to project his own bigotry with it.

Meditation of the day: How did Lovecraft's racism effect his fiction? A brief 🧡

Why would the social media platforms want to? Traffic is traffic. Artists need to build their own venues and keep control.

Step three is to publish the rubric so applicants can make sure to address everything you're looking for.

Step two is to become chair of the committee and make everyone use your rubric. (Then have forming sessions and get feedback on how to make the criteria clearer and fairer for next year.)

The important thing is to check your chart to make sure a) the criteria are distinct so you aren't double counting anything, and b) each point level requires everything that gives the applicant fewer points plus one bit extra so there is a clear progression.

This is the sort of project that caught my eye when I was administering the Eisner Library Grants. Most every proposal had stuff for kids. It was the ones that included multiple generations that got shortlisted.

A theme of the movies has been that Kong builds communities. Outside the physical conflict, Kong won because next time, he and Godzilla won't fight. And if they do, he'll bring his pet, his son, and his army.

Kong can use tools and strategy. That's his big advantage among kaiju, balancing out things like radioactive fire breath.

The movies have been pretty consistent in showing the latter, but bad in explaining it in dialogue.

The idea of a lower level saw some mockery, but it was perfectly reasonable in the world they set up. In real world kookery, there are two types of hollow Earth theories. First, Earth is a hollow shell with a giant empty space inside. Second, the Earth is riddled withmulti-level tunnels and caves.

At the very least, I was hoping for an echo of the Mothra summoning song I. The soundtrack, but they didn't even do that.

You should read Leave It to Chance. It's a lot of fun, and the Paul Smith art is great. It probably reads a lot better in a chunk than drawn out over years.
