Everyone should contact their senators/representatives to advocate for the NIH. Point out things like below. And like the fact that all new drugs have their point origin in NIH-funded research (then developed by Pharma/Biotech). The real impact of NIH has been lost in the noise of political BS

Different effects of fatty acid oxidation on hematopoietic stem cells based on age and diet Morrison and colleagues show long-chain fatty acid oxidation has context-dependent effects on hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). It is dispensable for HSC function in young mice. It becomes necessary for normal HSC function and hematopoiesis in older mice. A high-fat diet increases fatty acid oxidation, and this impairs HSC function.

Long-chain fatty acid oxidation (FAO) is dispensable for hematopoietic stem cells in young mice, while crucial for HSCs in old mice. But then too much FAO is detrimental for HSCs.

Fatty diet makes us unhealthy to the core...literally, our bone marrow…

Fascinating🤩

What I’ve learned so far is that mechanosensing is important pretty much everywhere in our body.

We are constantly “pulled” downwards by the gravity. I wonder what would happen if the entire embryogenesis and fetal development occurred in zero gravity.
