Covers of 14 books read in July
I had a great month for books. “When the Tides Held the Moon” and “Water Moon” are my new favorite books of all time. Water Moon is beautiful and twisty and emotional and left a mark on my soul.
And if you want to laugh out loud, Leslie F*cking Jones!

The school board candidate I was supporting just came out as anti-trans. Now the choice is between a MAGA Trumper and an anti-trans Dem. I hate it here in Texas. Maybe I should wear my Protect Trans Kids” shirt while blockwalking.

Books read in March
The Rubiyiatt
Where They Last Saw Her
Warm Bodies
The Reformatory
Unbecoming
Kiki’s Delivery Service
Lone Women
March reading statistics.7 books, 2,194 pages
Much slower month. Some heavy books plus Hello Kitty Island Adventure reduced my pages read significantly. Kiki’s was a much needed palette cleanser after The Reformatory and Where They Last Saw Her which I highly recommend but I cried throughout both.

When I was younger and running in more conservative circles, I often heard that there was a “delay” in the market of about 2-4 years so that Republicans could claim they were fixing it. The amount of mental gymnastics…..

My 10 year old drew this awesome picture of Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. I would love @amirtalai.bsky.social to sign it at a con this summer…. But is it weird since he’s so young? I heavily redact what episodes and scenes he can watch, it’s mostly about the music, but he’s a fan of what he has seen.

Cover of book The Reformatory by Tananarive Due. Orange to black ombré with line drawing of a schoolhouse.
I highly recommend Tananarive Due’s The Reformatory. It’s a tome and very heavy read, but I have shed so many tears for Robbie and Gloria. I’m only about 2/3 finished but the emotions are so real and raw
Please please please read this. #booksky📚💙

Do it. I’m in Texas where it’s pretty much banned due to the ID laws now. Making people hurt at home seems to be the only thing that wakes them up.

As a corporate tax CPA I have been reminding people annually that Intuit and H&R Block are the reasons we don’t have a “postcard” tax return. California tried and the lobbyists prevented it. Individuals should not have to file taxes unless they are complex or they disagree with the IRS’s calculation

Cover of Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. Zombie boy handing flowers to living girl with zombie masses in the background just standing watching.
I needed a light fun read after my last book so I picked up Isaac Marion’s Warm Bodies. Holy cow it was so philosophical for a zombie romance!! Great read, but now I need another pallet cleanser. Thinking of reaching for Kimberly Lemming.

I don’t even know where to start culling this list. Even at my current reading rate it would take me over 15 years to clear this TBR. Of these I own 381 between ebooks and physical books (thanks Stuff Your Kindle days….) #booksky📚💙

The Montgomery Bus Boycott lasted a year. The Feb 28 economic blackout is a decent start, but to make an impact we have to keep going. It’s difficult, it’s inconvenient, it can be expensive, but continue to vote with your dollars. Boycott Boycott Boycott
