The inability of blue coastal states to get out of their own way to build housing is costing them votes in the electoral college & seats in the House of Representatives.
Republican states have generally been more friendly to the construction of new housing, which is benefiting the national party.

I'd argue that while all of the US could do a better job of adding housing, blue coastal states need to add the most housing or the issues associated with housing shortages will continue driving people to the Republican Party.

Is this true?
Idaho gained 300k+ residents between 2016 & 2024, yet Trump gained 6 points in 2024 vs 2016.
Tennessee built a ton of housing between 2016 & 2024. The State gained over 500k residents in that time, most of whom moved to urban areas like Nashville. Trump gained 3-4 points in TN...

He'll be okay.
His floor is probably 4th round pick in 2027, followed by a nice long career as a backup. pretty high floor if I'm right.

He's a sophomore.
-> 5th most passing TDs in the SEC, with the fewest attempts of any SEC starting QB to play the majority of every game.
-> 3rd most rushing yards & rushing TDs among SEC QBs. Top rusher for Longhorns.
Let him cook for another year. People & programs need to be more patient.

Rural Dems in the Midwest have historically been white factory workers & the like.
Many rural Southern communities have a high proportion of Black folks compared to basically anywhere in the rural Midwest. But not as many factories in the rural South.

That SCOTUS ruling is probably the South's comp to union busting in the Midwest?
By the time the ruling came out, Tea Party Republicans in the Midwest had already enacted broad right-to-work legislation that started the decline in rural dem voter participation.

bruh.
The best I can get away with on bluesky is "southern cops all rode short busses to school".
At any given time, it seems like there is litigation in some southern state because of police & DAs who don't know what sex crimes even are, let alone the constitution.

Sadly, though, places like Nashville are getting more red with growth rather than more blue. The Southeast's non-Atlanta boomtowns are growing by attracting "Orange County Republicans".

Anyway, hopefully all Midwestern & Southern states end up with their own comps to Chicago, Detroit, and Atlanta.
Ohio probably could after more growth in the 3 Cs.
Indianapolis is probably on track to - some day - become Indiana's Atlanta.

Although, in the south, increased racial tension & a relative lack of industrialization = additional problems on top of the main two issues.
For example, it's hard to kill unions when unions were historically very limited in the first place (relative to the Midwest, anyway).

2) Tea Party Era Republicans using their power to disenfranchise Dems.
Gerrymandering = Dems lose local elections = Dems too disenfranchised to vote in statewide elections
Union busting then killed rural Dem organization, while rural Republicans still had churches...
19.10.2025 02:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
Dems struggle in Southern & Midwestern states because:
1) Relatively high population density of low-educational attainment white evangelicals in rural areas. Rural MS/GA/IN/OH/etc. = many times more dense than rural New Mexico.
It really adds up, and cancels out most/all of the urban vote.

sadly I would not be shocked if now the State cracks down on Purdue.
Whitten was basically installed by the State to be more of a commissioner for IU rather than a President.
She gets paid to carry out the agenda of the owners... er... state lawmakers & to take the bad PR that comes with that.

Really fucking absurd! 80% to bike infrastructure yet zero bike infrastructure.
The infrastructure gap between pre-Unigov city limits (dense core!!!) and 86th (surprisingly dense & mixed-use corridor!!!) is absurd in general.
Wild that Meridian Hills/Williams Creek are doing more than the City.
