I think pork ribs of some kind are a great starting point. I prefer St. Louis cut spare but baby backs are the same process. Check the Traeger app or YouTube channel for some basic recipes

Also highly recommend against a cheap Traeger. I got one from Costco and it constantly ran 40+ degrees too high. Itโ€™s a common problem with their cheap models

Big fan of my Yoder pellet grill for its versatility. Can cook directly over the fire pot and also turn it into a wood fire pizza over.

Just saw a news segment on fireflies and they have been decreasing but are having a resurgence this year in part because of last yearsโ€™ cicadas.

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.

Some friends and I got tickets to the final Six Nations match in Dublin against England 2 years ago through a mutual friend who was an English coach. It was the day after St. Patrickโ€™s and at a pub the night before I told a Dublin firefighter we had tickets & was promptly called a โ€œfucking cuntโ€

My grandpa was a B-17 pilot and he often said how he regretted losing his jacket because he was shot down and wounded. He got a replica later but said it just wasnโ€™t the same.

As a freshman in college I was randomly assigned a dorm room across the hall from a friend Iโ€™d had when I was a kid & hadnโ€™t seen or been in touch w/ since I moved when I was 10. We were roommates for the remainder of college & are still friends so I donโ€™t think itโ€™s unrealistic ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I mean I'm a liberal who has voted against property or sales tax increases pretty much every year for almost the last decade. My votes were due to poor management/planning or strategic problems (which I have better access to than most), not disagreement with increasing taxes, but it still tracks

These people, the gleeful goons, the giddy race scientists, the cheerleaders of misery, the โ€œAmerica for Americans onlyโ€ demagoguesโ€”they donโ€™t believe in this country.

They never have, no matter how brazenly theyโ€™ll wrap themselves in the flag to justify their actions. The country they believe is small and cruel. Itโ€™s a country where secret police demand to see papers, where neighbors turn on neighbors, where the state is the enemy of the people rather than the embodiment of their collective will. Itโ€™s a place governed by fear and by hate, but even more so by doubtโ€”doubt that any country could possibly be big enough to contain multitudes. Doubt that any country could be strong enough to take the unrealized dreams of the rest of the world and make them possible. Doubt that any country could be resilient enough to face hardship head-on and keep marching toward those ideals put to parchment by imperfect men two and a half centuries ago.

They donโ€™t believe in America, and no matter how tightly they grip the reins of government right now, America doesnโ€™t belong to them. It belongs to the people who do believe in it, whether they came over on the Mayflower or through Ellis Island, in business class or on foot, โ€œthe right wayโ€ or not. Heck, maybe they were here long before anyone who looked like me showed up. It belongs to people who believe in those ideals that weโ€™ve strove towards but never quite lived up to, people who believe that we should keep striving anyways because that arc of the universe isnโ€™t going to bend itself. It belongs to people willing to do the work, willing to stand up for their communities, and willing to take to their streets to stand up for those unmet ideals. It belongs to people who can still see the promise of this place in their mind and want more than anything to be a part of it, even if they have to cross an ocean or a desert to do so.

Logging off for the weekend, but shouting it one more time before I do: they don't believe in America.

I work with local governments and some of the most conservative people I've worked with have been some of the biggest proponents of raising local taxes to support local services. If asked, every one of them would say they believe in lower taxes. People just don't operate with fixed logic

They've got like 50 of them sitting at the service center near me and all I can think about when I drive by is their notoriously bad paint getting blasted by UV at 6,000+ ft of elevation. If they actually move any of them they're going to have so many paint warranty claims

A liberal should be someone who does the right thing because it is right and stands up to bullies and abusers. The type of liberalism that America has suffered with for decades now has been a craven exercise in soulless hedging and cowardice
