So, rather than have our 4th of July depressed by the bad that has happened and is happening, we should take this opportunity to remember the commitments made in the cause of Liberty throughout our history and resolve to make those same commitments ourselves. And that is worth celebrating. 3/3

The fight that they committed to, to protect and expand liberty, to oppose tyranny, is the same fight we are in. It's not just similar to it, it is in fact the same fight.
The Revolution is still unfinished, and those opposing its ideals have been sabotaging and undermining it for 249 years. 2/

At times like these it's worth remembering that the 4th of July doesn't commemorate a great victory or achievement.
The war was well underway and things would become even more bleak
Instead we should remember it for being when people soberly saw the fight ahead and fully committed to it. 1/

There was a great Neonliberalism podcast episode where they broke down how Conservatives have long been trying to come up with Liberal sounding justifications for the policies they support because they just couldn't win if they admitted they wanted to undo the enlightenment.

YouTube video by Zohran Mamdani for NYC
Small Business, Big Priority
It's amazing to me that so much media leads with Mamdani being "a socialist", and never explores what that word even means to him.
This guy put out a great pro-capitalism ad a month ago.

I offered you an explanation of how you get a focus group like that. The person who ran it was clear that it wasn't representative. You provided one poll that showed what people claimed they would do in a hypothetical 1v1 matchup and Sherrill barely got a majority. I'm not sure what your issue is.

It's not a sample at all. It's a focus group. If you took a "sample" of 8 people you'd get all kinds of weird results. And you can't just add those numbers together. People are idiosyncratic it's entirely possible that there would be a 3 or 4 point difference (or way more) from what you'd expect.

It's literally impossible to know how some other vote would have gone. If you think anywhere close to 100% of any candidate's voters transfer to a specific other candidate, I don't think that's supported. Still, how big was this focus group? I looked into it and heard audio from only 8 people.

Your point was about people who support her as their first choice, was it not? Also, people are idiosyncratic and it's impossible to say what would have happened in a runoff, but I think it would be a good idea to do them in the future or adopt an instant runoff or RCV system for future primaries.

I didn't see the context for this, but remember that even though she won she only got a third of the vote. And since she was backed by most of the party apparatus it isn't surprising to me that she would over perform with less focused voters, who in a previous year would just be voting the line.

100%. I'm not in journalism but I suspect candidates bear a lot of responsibility too. It's got to be easier to cover something like a debate than to interview each candidate individually. And they could be submitting editorials. But a lot of them don't even have websites!

It's gotten really hard to find media coverage of even Assembly races. Forget county races. I just filled in my ballot but honestly we're starved for information even from most candidates themselves.

What do you mean by "liberals" here? Because not respecting people's rights sounds pretty illiberal to me.

Wachovia was much more of a bank for the community. As soon as we transitioned to Wells Fargo, customers became commodities to squeeze every last drop of money out of them that we possibly could. Hence all the BS accounts and debit cards we were forced to open for people.

I saw this kind of thing first hand when I worked for Wells Fargo. I was hired after they acquired Wachovia bank, but before they transitioned the Wachovias into Wells Fargos.
The customers hated it, and with good reason. From an employee perspective I could see the huge culture change first hand.

I've been a Discover customer for a long time and have had really good experiences with them. I'm pretty dismayed by it getting bought up by Capital One. It's going to be bad for the overall economy and bad for customers and employees.
We need to cool it with mergers/acquisitions in this country.
