Two Hallowe'en cards (spelled the proper way) from the 1940s, image reversed on one. Texts read "Wishing You a Merry Hallowe'en" and "A Joyous Hallowe'en" A black cat with wild eyes, top hat and sash sits upon a Jack O' Lantern on wheels which grins up at him. The cat brandishes a whip that he menaces a brace of 6 rats pulling his pumpkin carriage who don't seem overly concerned. The team leader sits up charmingly and gazes out at the viewer.

Brian Haidet has built a camera in his garage that captures 2 billion frames per second — fast enough to record light itself moving through air.

An "outside the bedroom window" pot o' roses. Spreading out nicely in the two years it's been here, with well over a dozen pink&red flowers against green foliage. A starter pot of geraniums sits to its right, and a hose I'll be using today to do the full-yard watering in a few minutes. NEVER buy a pot of geraniums unless you need a wide coverage instantly, by the way. Any snapped-off 6-inch color you like can be propogated with stickin' it in soil and watering it twice a day for 3 weeks. I've a 30-ft wall of 5-ft high purples along to my left, here, started just that way. Do be aware that purples tend to spread and reds tend to mound, to get the affect you're wantin'.

It's a little gloomy in SoCal today, but I'm assuming it's the last hurrah for the roses this year, and figured we all cd use a break in the doomscrolling.
