This is amazing. And it’s truly the stuff of nightmares.

Serious question: What's stopping the State of Illinois from arresting Stephen Miller & charging him with incitement?

The Senate didn't confirm him. He's just a guy.

At some point, the states MUST use their authority to prosecute, because the federal government certainly will not.

I hold this outrage along with my outrage in Gaza. I do not have to choose between them. But I do choose peace. I choose justice. I choose dignity for all people.

It’s safe to assume Hegseth saw β€œA Few Good Men” and thought Nicholson was the hero that was treated unjustly.

@gavinnewsom.bsky.social: "This party needs to wake up. These guys aren't screwing around... They're assassins when it comes to the way they weaponize grievance and the way they play politics. Enough! What more goddamn evidence do we need? They have rolled back the last half century in real time!"

I'm just glad one of these men has the nuclear codes and the other has all our personal data.

If you let the executive deport people to a foreign gulag just by pronouncing the word β€œterrorism,” then expect to be called a β€œterrorist” soon yourself.

A completed crossword puzzle, with the clue, β€œfirst word of national anthem” and the answer of β€œlift” being highlighted.

A little subversion from Apple New game editors? A pleasant surprise, even though it took me forever to figure the clue out.

Can you? I’m genuinely curious.

It seems obvious to me that the conservative view of any period will always be looked back upon as being ignorant and foolish. I can’t think of any counter-example at a macro level.

25.01.2025 02:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So, if conservatism is about maintaining the status quo, and history shows us the status quo has always needed improving and growth, why does anyone think their conservatism is the one that got it right? Why do any of us think we live in, or already declined from, the pinnacle of human culture?

25.01.2025 02:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

To put it another way, the standard conservative views of any period were the liberal views of a culture 100 years ago. And that has always been true in all times and in all cultures.

Now, here’s my main question:

Can you point to any conservative movement in history that wasn’t about preserving power and privilege, but instead about thoughtful, gradual change for the good of everyone?

25.01.2025 02:05 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Time and again, conservatism doesn’t just slow progressβ€”it actively works to keep things the way they are, protecting the rich and powerful and upholding systems of oppression.

25.01.2025 02:04 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

In the 1850s, conservatives fought to keep slavery.

In the 1960s, they fought to maintain Jim Crow.

In the 80’s they fought to uphold apartheid.

And today, we see conservative resistance to LGBTQ+ rights and immigration reform.

25.01.2025 02:04 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Which made me wonder:

Which conservative movements have contributed to that growth and improvement?

25.01.2025 02:03 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There have always been local, temporary regressions, but on a big enough timeline (~100 years) the world is undeniably better than it was before that in terms of justice, health, and safety.

I was talking with my son about conservatives and liberals this morning and explaining how the word conservative meant trying to keep things the way they are, being averse to change. The world has always been changing, progressing, moving towards justice, health, and liberty.

25.01.2025 02:02 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Have you ever noticed that conservative movements are almost always on the wrong side of history?

With so many companies abandoning their DEI initiatives right now, I thought I’d share this thing I wrote 5 years ago. I can’t believe we’re going backwards on this.
