In his first statement since getting elected, Zohran Mamdani states that his "top priority" in office will be to "restore Dandy as the mascot of the Yankees, no matter what it takes. I'll sink this fucking city if I have to."

In 2006, Brian Wilson invited Carole King to his recording studio for sessions that turned out to on his 2008 album That Old Lucky Sun. Among the B-sides on the deluxe version is their rendition of the Goffin/King classic β€œI’m Into Something Good.”

Yesterday marked a full year since Steve Albini died.

If he knew Leo XIV was Chicago-born I think his mind would be blown.

He’s having the time of his post-life somewhere. Maybe heaven, but somewhere better.

A cartoon by Cori6 compares two scenarios. The top panel, labeled "PROJECT 1938," shows a group of people, including adults and children, disembarking from a train with a ramp, reminiscent of historical deportations. The bottom panel, labeled "PROJECT 2025," depicts a similar group of people disembarking from an airplane using a mobile staircase, suggesting a modern deportation scenario. The cartoon is signed "Cori6" in the bottom right corner.

We’re honestly on a fast timeline to exactly this.

I’m the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I had been kidnapped I was stuck in a freezing cell without explanation despite eventually having lawyers and media attention. Yet, compared with others, I was lucky

A screenshot of two paragraphs from the Guardian article β€œI’m the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I had been kidnapped” (published March 19, 2025). The paragraphs detail government-funded companies that engage in US ICE-related detainment and imprisoning of non-Americans regardless of immigration status or legal safety. The companies profit from hundreds of millions of dollars from ICE contracts and work to put detainees in prison for as long as possible for maximum profit.

I’m in a long-distance relationship with a Canadian. I’ve been aware of ICE and their bleak actions for some time. But this whole article hit me on a personal, relevant level.

And then there’s this profit from shuffling non-Americans around. If that’s not human trafficking I don’t know what is.

it's always fascinating to watch grown adults discover the concept of public libraries for the first time

Ponderable?

And do free people expect to read every book they want to read for free (at public expense)?

After all, many people who write and produce the books do expect a return on their effort and investment.

Just a thought.

and when you decide to defund libraries because "people who can afford it can just buy the books", you restrict access to those who can't afford it

How about if we use those tax dollars to buy the books for those who can't afford them?

congratulations! you have just invented libraries

An attempt at a Vanitas still-life image, as a tribute to Steve Albini. There are 11 objects, done only in line art, with no coloring, lighting or shading. Done in literally an hour. Identify all 11 objects and I’ll give you a prize. What is it I dunno. Perhaps marriage.
