Temporary, volunteer #SchoolStreets are like a smoke-free section in a restaurant: a useless half-measure for those who see a problem but don't have the will to solve it.
This, on the other hand, is an actual car-free school street, and we should demand nothing less for students across the UK.
Following the success of our first Circle the City monthly cycle ride, our next one is on the 2nd May! π²

05.03.2025 09:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you to those who have been asking about our LTN scheme proposals. At the last Harborne Ward Forum, at least one councillor stated he would not be supporting the the scheme under the ENTF fund. We are disappointed, but we will continue to develop the scheme for the new 2026 councillors.

The car free catchment would be huge.

Picture shows cycle lane closed and cyclists dismount and walk signs on uphill section of shared use pavement.
Selly Oak βrelief roadβ links many important and busy destinations. The narrow and inadequate shared path is now littered with constructors Dismount and walk signs. No work going on. Who wants to or can push a loaded bike up that hill. What about riders with disabilities?
26.11.2024 07:53 β π 21 π 4 π¬ 6 π 0One fine day in Harborne East - a tale told in traffic counts. Harborne near Moor Pool is considered one of the quietest areas of Birmingham. However, we found hardly any cyclists but lots of speeding and high volumes of traffic. betterstreetshq.com/2024/10/22/h...

20.11.2024 09:15 β π 591 π 123 π¬ 21 π 19This is a significant report from CIHT (Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation) on adopting a Safe System Approach. Pleasing to see it referencing the Welsh approach of setting 20mph default speeds and "excepting up".

My biggest pet peeve about public transit policy is when its only purpose is seen as commuting to work.
A good transit system is there to support all kinds of trips at all times of the day, not only office commutes. Groceries, football games, coffee shop trips, concerts, etc.
Thank you everyone who came to this. It was a robust evening of discussion. Onwards!

London isnβt Amsterdam. No one will cycle. Especially when it rains or itβs dark. No one. Even in coats. Not in London. In the rain. No.
