I believe if I were to jump back into server hosting on Mastodon, it would be in partnership with people to share that time and financial load.

Yep. Ultimately it was computing costs and also a time issue. I was partnering with my spouse for backend work and between getting put in a management position at work and welcoming a second kid, we didn’t feel like we were hosting a safe and secure instance when there are better alternatives.

Unfortunately we had to shut down the server 🙁 We made the announcement at the start of July and we did end up going beyond the original August 1 cutoff date because one of our users requested some extra help.
