Hmmm… I seem to remember bits about Pharisees and their gold and even a Golden Calf in this book they keep referencing. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

IANAL, but if the defense side(s!) refuses to even argue their position, shouldn’t that result in a summary judgement for the plaintiffs?

So, federalism is now officially dead? Good to know! /s

These are deeply unserious people doing very serious things they don’t fully understand.

Deep Throat to Woodward: β€œForget the myths the media has created about the White House. The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.”

Imagine what a functional national media could do with material like this.

For all of these decisions, an actual person – with a name – had to sign off on them. Every single one of these articles should name that person explicitly, by FOIA if necessary.

Anonymizing these decisions only assists these bad-faith actions.

β€œwill” and β€œwon’t” do by itself is a very slippery slope.

A metaphor for the whole (mal)Administration to date, honestly. Systems take decades to create and refine before their benefits are seen. Destroying them is an eye-blink in comparison.

Now, apply this same idea to State, Agriculture, the Smithsonian, NIH and NSF, ... you get the point.

I had both sets of loving grandparents within walking distance for a good chunk of my childhood, which I consider now a wonderful gift. Every child should be so lucky.

I keep wanting to ask explicitly, β€œIs our university being paid to promote AI use by our students, faculty, and staff?” as well as, β€œIs the cloud data and text on our university accounts contractually authorized to be mined for LLM training?”

I’m not sure I’ll like the answer.

Kiss the South Florida tourism industry goodbye... and Rubio knows this, probably better than anyone.

As we've seen time-and-time again, a sizable portion of the electorate simply cannot admit having made a poor decision.

It all makes sense in the context of destroying public β€” meaning, β€œnon-charter” as well β€” education in the State of Florida. It’s the same GOP plan as with every government function: make the agencies unable to fulfill their mandate, then complain about their failure and need to privatize.

I’m reminded about today’s driving practice with my teen daughter in a mall parking lot. Whoever designs these gets an express ticket to a lower circle of hell.

FFS. And again, you're not reading the assignment. You could've added to the thread with something helpful, like "17) Add 4 Dem POTUS-appointed justices to the SC to = 1 justice to 1 judicial district" or "17) Add SC COI requirements."

Seriously, left-wing defeatist purity trolls are exhausting.

Of course not, but you didn’t read the assignment. A leftish Miller would push something like a revised Fairness Doctrine to just over the legal line, then let the courts sort it out.

Preemptive self-censoring is partly what got us and the Dem Party nationally in the current state.

The Heritage Foundation sure did when they wrote Project 2025, although we can debate whether they took the right lessons from history for democracy.

This (abandoned) paper wasp nest was at a Scout camp in North Carolina this summer. I’ve always thought there was a metaphor in the photo somewhere.

Keep sciencing. We are living through a time when looking at a rock and wondering how old it is qualifies as an act of resistance.

A corollary of this shift is that uni presidents were deemed CEOs first, academics second (even as most unis continued the tradition of them having PhDs or equivalent). Revenue thus became a paramount uni virtue rather than the social values of education and discovery.

I’m not a lawyer, but UCLA Law and Harvard Law (among other affected institutions) have graduated some pretty smart folks who should be able to run legal circles around the current DOJ. Sounds like we’re ripe for a class-action against TFG for illegal impoundments of Congressional appropriations.

Being β€œgoverned” implies the will of the people, an increasingly shaky assumption. The 2026 elections will be the test of whether that social contract still applies.

I never liked the term "underutilized species" in fisheries contexts, but there has to be SOME other taxa they could instead use for fish protein (e.g., small tuna species like bonito).

OTOH, if this is instead a back-door subsidy for an otherwise unprofitable shark fishery, it needs to end ASAP.
